I read an article, which I found useful, about your rights over what you write.

Reading another Epic

The ability to envision an entirely new world, write it down in a cohesive manner, and tell a great story is the mark of a great novelist in my opinion. Not everyone can do it (successfully at least). I recently embarked on another epic imaginary journey, Stephen King's The Dark Tower Series.
Set in a alternate universe that is as much post apocalyptic as it is wild west, The Dark Tower series tells the journey of a lone gunslinger. I've only read a few chapters and while I honestly don't understand the plot, I already feel a little drawn into the world it creates.
It's hard not to compare what little I've read to other great epics that came before and after it. I'll take that as a sign I've stumbled upon something worth reading.
